The National governing body of Sri Lanka was unable to grant the Sri Lankan cricketer a NOC.

The captain of the Quetta Gladiators, Sarfaraz Ahmed, stated that the team’s hopes for the upcoming season of the Pakistan Super League were pinned on the shoulders of Sri Lankan spin player  Wanindu Hasaranga (PSL).

The champion of year 2019 was dealt a significant setback on Tuesday when Sri Lankan cricket player Wanindu Hasaranga was disqualified from playing in the Pakistan Super League 8 because his national governing body refused to issue him No Objection Certificate (NOC)

Hasaranga was selected by Quetta Gladiators in the platinum category of the Pakistan Super League 2023 draught, and the franchise was anticipating his arrival on Monday 21st of February.

Though, the 25-year-old cricketer was unable to obtain the necessary No Objection Certificate from Sri Lankan Board in order to travel to Pakistan and take part in PSL8  there. He is currently keeping himself occupied by participating in first-class cricket competition in Sri Lanka.

Following his team’s defeat by Lahore Qalandars by 63 runs, Sarfaraz said: “Due to the fact that he was unable to obtain a NOC, a top player on whom we had been depending will not be joining us. This is a significant factor; if you build a team, and then all of a sudden one of your most important players is unable to come, the equilibrium of your team is thrown off, which is why we are currently having to deal with quite a few challenges.”

In the meantime, a Gladiators representative confirmed to Geo News that the organisation is aware of Hasaranga’s inability to play and is looking into a variety of possibilities, including the possibility of acquiring a replacement player.

Despite having a very impressive roster, the Gladiators is not playing up to their potential so far. This has been the case.

They have some of the best players in the league, but they have struggled recently, losing three of the last four games they’ve played. As a result, they are currently in fourth place on the points table.
