Sachin Tendulkar, Javed Miandad, Misbah ul Haq, Sourav Ganguly, Ricky Ponting, and Kumar Sangakkara are a few names who had an ODI batting average around 40 to 45.
Today, I will list down the top 10 batsmen who have the highest batting averages in ODI cricket. It is easy to top the list of highest average in ODI by playing a few innings. But it is difficult to maintain the highest average in ODI for a long time.
So, keeping this fact in mind, I have picked those players for this list who have played at least 40 ODI innings.

10. Imam ul Haq (PAK)
Imam ul Haq is a Pakistani left-handed opening batsman who played all formats of cricket. He is the nephew of legendary batsman Inzamam ul Haq. His debut in ODI cricket is in 2017 and he is still playing for Pakistan.
He made 2023 runs in the 46 innings he played with a strike rate of 80.30. Imam has made 7 centuries and 10 fifties in his career. He remains not out 5 times, while he gets out on a duck 3 times.
Imam-ul-Haq has an ODI batting average of 49.34 which is quite good. His highest individual score in an innings is 151 which he made against England.
9. Hashim Amla (SA)
Hashim Amla is a South African batsman who represents his country in all 3 formats of cricket. He has a record to make fastest 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000, 6000, and 7000 ODI runs.
Amla represents his country in cricket from 2008 to 2019 and he made a total of 8113 ODI runs with a strike rate of 88.39. He played 181 matches, made 27 centuries and 39 fifties. He remained not out in 14 innings. While Amla gets out on a duck 4 times.
Hashim Amla has an ODI batting average of 49.46. The highest individual score in an innings of Hashim Amla is 159 that he made against Ireland in the 2015 world cup match.
8. Mahendra Singh Dhoni (IND)
Mahendra Singh Dhoni (MS Dhoni) is one of the greatest Indian batsmen, wicket-keeper, and captain. Under his captaincy, the Indian cricket team has won the T20 world cup in 2007, the ODI world cup in 2011, and the Champions Trophy in 2013.
In his 350 ODI matches, he made 10773 runs with a great strike rate of 87.56. In his ODI career, MS Dhoni has made 10 centuries and 73 fifties while he remained not out in 84 innings. MS Dhoni gets out on a duck in 10 innings.
MS Dhoni has an ODI batting average of 50.57. His highest individual score is 183* against Sri Lanka in 2005 and he was declared man of the match for his match-winning innings.
7. Jonathan Trott (ENG)
English player, Jonathan Trott has played only 68 matches for England and he made a total of 2819 ODI runs with an average strike rate of 77.06. His career was very short as he debuts in 2009 and retired in 2013.
In his entire career, he made 4 centuries, 22 fifties and he remained not out in 10 innings. Jonathan Trott gets out on a duck 5 times. His highest individual score in an innings is 137 against Australia. England lost that match, but Jonathan Trott was declared as the player of the match.

6. Joe Root (ENG)
Joe Root is the finest top-order batsman for the England cricket team. He made his debut in 2013 and he is still playing cricket for his country. In 152 matches that he played, he made a total of 6109 ODI runs with a strike rate of 86.84.
In his entire career, he made 16 centuries and 35 fifties whereas he remained not out for 23 times. With that, he got out on a duck 5 times. Joe Root made his highest individual score against Bangladesh and it was 133 not out. He was declared player of the match for his match-winning innings.

Shai Hope is the only batsman from the West Indies who is included in this list of highest averages in ODI. Hope made his debut in 2016 and he has made 3599 ODI runs till now in 83 matches with a strike rate of 74.77.
Hope made 10 centuries and 19 fifties in his career till now and he remained not out for 10 times. He gets out on a duck four 4 times.
ODI batting average of Shai Hope is 52.92 and his highest individual ODI runs are 170 against Ireland in 2019. He holds a world record of the highest opening partnership in ODI of 365 runs along with John Campbell.
4. AB de Villiers (SA)
One of the greatest batsmen South Africa has ever produced is AB de Villiers. He made 9577 runs in 228 matches he played with a strike rate of 101.09. He has the highest ODI strike rate in this list of top batsmen with the highest ODI batting averages.
In his entire career, he made 25 centuries and 53 fifties and he remained not out for 39 times. He gets out on a duck 7 times. His highest individual score in ODI is 176 that he made against Bangladesh in 2017.
AB de Villiers has a batting average of 53.50 in ODI. He announced his retirement from ODI cricket in 2018 but he still playing Indian Premier League.
3. Michael Bevan (AUS)
In the list of highest batting averages in ODI, Michael Bevan is the only batsman from Australia. Also, he is the only batsman on the list who never played a T20I match because he retired from international cricket in 2004.
Michael Bevan played 232 ODI matches in his career and he made 6912 runs with a strike rate of 74.16. He made 6 centuries and 46 fifties in his entire ODI career. He remained not out in 67 innings while he gets out on a duck in 5 innings.
Michael Bevan has an average of 53.58 in ODI cricket. He had the highest average among all the batsmen of his time who have played 30 or more matches.
2. Babar Azam (PAK)
Babar Azam from Pakistan is the number 1 ODI batsman these days according to ICC ranking. He is also captain of the Pakistan cricket team. Babar Azam made his debut in one-day international cricket in 2015 and since then he has played 83 ODI matches.
In 83 matches, Babar has made a total of 3985 runs and he missed the fastest to 4000 records by just 15 runs. Babar has a career strike rate of 89.57 and he made 14 centuries and 17 fifties in his 83 matches. In 11 innings, Babar Azam remained not out while he gets out on a duck 3 times. Babar Azam made his career-best 158 runs against England.
Babar Azam has an ODI batting average of 56.92 and it is expected that he will improve this because he is one of the youngest players on the list. Only Imam-ul-Haq is younger than Babar Azam on this list, so Babar has a long career ahead and he can improve his stats a lot.
1. Virat Kohli (IND)
The Run Machine, King Kohli are the two famous names of Indian skipper Virat Kohli. He is one of the finest batsmen that the world has ever produced along with Sachin Tendulkar and a few others.
Virat Kohli made his one-day international debut in 2008 and since then he has played 254 matches. He made 12169 runs in one-day cricket with an amazing career-strike rate of 93.17.
Kohli made 43 centuries which is the second-highest in ODI cricket after Sachin Tendulkar who made 49 One day centuries. He has 62 fifties on his record and his career-best is 183 runs against Pakistan during a successful chase of 329 runs.
Virat Kohli has the highest batting average in ODI cricket and that is 59.07. But now he is struggling in international matches. But he still has a long way to go and he can play at least 5 to 7 more years, so I hope he can improve his stats and can attain the highest ODI average of all time of 60+.
