The Quetta Gladiators and the Karachi Kings are the two clubs currently sitting in last place on the points standings for the eighth season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
After suffering their seventh defeat at the hands of the Gladiators, the Kings are on the verge of elimination from the competition, whilst Sarfaraz Ahmed’s squad still has a chance to qualify for the next round.
Yet, in order for both teams to be successful in making it into the playoffs at this point, the luck of the gods will have to be very much on their side. There is still a chance.
Scenario for Karachi Kings:
The only way for Imad Wasim to lead Karachi Kings to the playoffs is if Peshawar Zalmi are unable to win any of their remaining matches, Quetta Gladiators lose to Sultans after defeating Zalmi, and Karachi Kings win their match against Lahore Qalandars. In this scenario, Karachi Kings would qualify for the playoffs.
In this scenario, three teams will be tied with six points, and the winner will be determined according to their respective net run rates (NRR).
Scenario for Quetta Gladiators:
There are two different outcomes that could lead to the Gladiators making it into the playoffs.
Scenario 1:
The first scenario is possible if the Gladiators, captained by Sarfaraz Ahmed, prevail over Zalmi and Sultans in both of their matches, and if Peshawar are unable to win any of their remaining matches, the Gladiators will advance to the next round.
If the Gladiators are victorious in both games and the Zalmi are victorious in one more game but lose two more games, then both teams will have eight points and be tied with each other.
Scenario 2:
If Gladiators defeat Babar Azam’s Zalmi and Sultans, Zalmi likewise defeats Sultans but loses against Islamabad United and Lahore Qalandars, and if MS loses all of its remaining 3games against Peshawar Zalmi, QG, and Islamabad United, then all three clubs will have eight points each.
Gladiators trump Kings for much-needed victory:
In the 22nd match of the eighth season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), which took place on Monday at the Pindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi, Quetta Gladiators prevailed against Karachi Kings by four wickets.
The Gladiators defeated the Kings by a score of 165 runs to four after the Kings had set the target score.
