(Abu Dhabi – June 21) Multan Sultans has qualified for the final match of Pakistan Super League 2021. They convincingly won the first qualifier match against the tournament’s favorite Islamabad United.
This is the first time in the history of PSL that Multan Sultans has qualified for the PSL final match. They won the match by 31 runs with the brilliant performance of Sohail Tanveer, Khushdil Shah, Johnson Charles, and Sohaib Maqsood.
Multan Sultan Innings Highlights
Multan Sultans won the toss and elected to bat first in the first qualifier against Islamabad United. Captain Muhammad Rizwan lost his wicket early in the second over without making a single run. Shan Masood was the second one to go, he made slowly 25 runs on 22 balls.
Rilee Rossouw was also gone on duck and at this stage, Multan Sultans were 3 down at a total of 59 runs in the 8th over. From here, Johnson Charles played a brilliant knock, he took charge and made quick 41 runs on just 21 balls. He hit 3 sixes and 3 fours for his 41 runs.
Shan Masood could make 59 important runs but he consumed 41 balls for that. He hit 3 sixes and 7 fours. Khushdil Shah also played aggressively and with the help of 5 brilliant sixes, he added 42 important runs on just 22 balls.
Multan Sultans were able to set a decent total of 180 runs on the scorecard as Khushdil Shah hit 4 consecutive sixes in the 19th over. Total 29 runs were made in the 19the over with 4 sixes and 1 boundary.
Islamabad United Innings Highlights
Islamabad United started their innings and lost their 1st wicket on the 2nd ball of the very 1st over. Collin Munro was the first one who gone on a duck and was clean bowled by Sohail Tanveer. Muhammad Akhlaq was run out after hitting two boundaries, he made 10 runs on 9 balls.
Captain Shadab Khan was the next, he also went on a duck, and at this stage, Islamabad United lost their 3 important wickets on a total of 14 runs in 2.5 overs. Iftikhar Ahmad stayed on the crease for a short time and was caught behind by the Sultan’s skipper. He made 16 runs and consumed 15 balls.
Asif Ali, the consistent performer for Islamabad United could add only 1 run in the scorecard and stumped by Rizwan on Imran Tahir’s ball. At this stage total score was 61 in 9.4 overs.
After this, Usman Khawja and Hussain Tallat tried well, but they couldn’t chase the target. Khawja caught near the rope after making 70 runs on 40 balls. After the departure of Usman Khawja, the hopes of Islamabad United were lost.
Islamabad United was all out on a total score of 149 in 19 overs. Multan Sultans convincingly won the qualifier with 31 runs and qualified for the PSL 6 final match.
Sohail Tanvir declared man of the match as he took 3 wickets for 17 runs in 4 overs.
