The whole Indian nation was praying for the win of Afghanistan against New Zealand. Afghanistan’s win was the last hope for the hosts as this win can take them to the Semi-Final of World T20. But, India is now out of the tournament as New Zealand beat Afghanistan in a crucial match.
From Group 2, Pakistan and New Zealand have qualified for the Semi-Finals. If Pakistan wins their last match against Scotland, which they will win most probably, then Pakistan will face Australia in the Semi-Final.
Today, in the crucial match between Afghanistan and New Zealand, Mohammad Nabi won the toss and decided to bat first. They lost their openers early and in the power play. After 6 overs, Afghanistan was 23-3 and they lost Zazai, Shahzad, and Gurbaz.
Najibullah Zadran played an outstanding inning and he made 73 runs on 48 balls. It is also his highest run in an innings in the T20 international matches. With this innings, Afghanistan managed to make 124 runs in the allotted 20 overs.
Trent Boult took 3 wickets for 17 runs in his 4 overs. Tim Southee took 2 wickets for 24 runs in his 4 overs.
New Zealand has to make 125 runs to qualify for the Semi-Final. And they have successfully chased the target in 18.1 overs for the loss of 2 wickets.
Martin Guptill and Daryl Mitchell opened the innings for New Zealand and they provided a good start. Mohammad Nabi bowled the first over followed by Mujeeb.
On the first ball of the 4th over, Daryl Mitchell caught behind on a total of 26 runs while his individual runs were 17 on 12 balls. Mujeeb took this wicket. Martin Guptill was the second batsman to get out. He was clean bowled by Rashid Khan on a total of 57 runs in 8.5 overs. Guptill made 28 important runs on 23 balls.
Captain Kane Williamson played important role in the chase. It was expected that Rashid Khan and Mujeeb could cause serious damage to the New Zealand batting line. But Williamson is back in the form at the right form and he faced the spinners carefully.
Kane Williamson played a match-winning innings for New Zealand as he made 40 runs on just 42 balls. Now, New Zealand will face England in the Semi-Final match of the T20 World Cup 2021.
Conway also played an important inning for New Zealand as he made 36 runs not out on 32 balls. He made a good partnership with the captain and take the team to the semi-final.
Rashid took 1 wicket only in his 4 overs while he conceded 27 runs. Mujeeb ur Rehman also took 1 wicket by conceding 31 runs in 4 overs.
The fielding from New Zealand also played an important role as they have saved about 15 to 20 runs with their outstanding fielding.
Whereas, the host, Team India is out of the tournament which is a big disappointment not only for the Indian nation but also for the tournament. If they could be qualified for the Semis, then cricket lovers were expecting another Pakistan vs India contest in the Final of the T20 World Cup.
