(Leeds – 18 July 2021) England won the 2nd T20 international match at Leeds against Pakistan by 45 runs. While chasing 201 runs, the Pakistan team could only manage to make 155 runs for 9 wickets down in the allotted 20 overs.
Remember, Pakistan set a target of 233 runs in the first T20 match for England and won that match by 31 runs.
England’s Inning Highlights
England started its innings and lost two early wickets of Jason Roy and Dawid Malan. Hafeez took the catch when Jason Roy was batting on 10 runs. Imad Wasim was the bowler and it was just the 4th ball of the 1st over.
Dawid Malan could make only 1 run on 5 balls and he was also caught on Imad Wasim’s ball, Azam Khan. The total score of England at that stage was just 18 runs in 2.3 overs.
From here, captain Jos Buttler and Moeen Ali took charge and they displayed an amazing partnership. Both of them added 67 quick runs by consuming just 31 balls. Moeen Ali was caught on mid-on by Babar Azam and Mohammad Hasnain was the bowler. He made 36 runs on just 16 balls with 1 six and 6 fours.
Dangerous-looking batsman and captain of England, Jos Buttler was the next to go. He was also caught by Babar Azam and again, Mohammad Hasnain was the bowler. He made 59 runs on 39 balls with 7 fours and 2 sixes. At this stage, England’s total score was 137/4 in 13.2 overs.
Jonny Bairstow could add only 13 runs on 7 balls when he was caught by Fakhar Zaman and Shadab Khan was the bowler. Century maker of the 1st ODI, Liam Livingstone run out with the collaboration of Azam Khan and Haris Rauf. He made 38 runs on 23 balls with 3 sixes and 2 fours.
At this stage, England was 6 down at a total score of 164 in 15.3 overs. No other batsman could perform well and England was all out on a total of 200 runs in 19.5 overs.
Mohammad Hasnain was the highest wicket take as he sends 3 batsmen to Pavillion. But he conceded 51 runs in 4 overs and proved to be the most expensive bowler from the Pakistan side.
Haris Rauf and Imad Wasim took two wickets each while Shaheen Shah Afridi and Shadab Khan took 1 wicket each.
Pakistan’s Inning Highlights
Pakistan started their inning to chase 200 runs in 20 overs and openers provided a good start. Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan once again batted well and provided 50 runs opening partnership in 5.4 overs.
Malan took the catch of Babar Azam and he departs by making 22 runs on 16 balls. After him, Sohaib Maqsood faced only 10 balls and he made 15 runs with 1 six and 1 four. He got out on the 1st ball of the 9th over, bowled by Rashid.
In no time, the Pakistan team was all down as they lost quick wickets. Mohammad Rizwan was the third one to go, he made 37 runs on 29 balls.
Mohammad Hafeez, Fakhar Zaman, and Azam Khan couldn’t make any difference and they were out after making 10, 8, and 1 run respectively. After the departure of Azam Khan Pakistan was 105-6 in 14 overs.
Imad Wasim went early after making 20 runs on 13 balls and Pakistan lost all the hopes for winning the 2nd match. Shadab Khan resisted for some time, but there was no batsman to support him. He made 36 runs on 22 balls by 3 sixes and 2 fours. He remained not out till the eng of the inning when Pakistan’s total score was 155-9 in 20 overs.
Saqib Mahmood took 3 wickets while Adil Rashid and Moeen Ali took 2 wickets each. Moin Ali declared player of the match for taking 2 wickets and making quick 36 runs on 16 balls.
Now, the series is level by 1-1 and the next T20 match on 20th July will be the series decider.
